Larry joined a satellite club in Phoenix in 2011 and took the lead in converting it to the Rotary Club of Camelback Crossroads in August, 2024. Larry served as District Governor in D5495, northern Arizona, in 2022-23. After retiring from a career in law enforcement and commercial real estate, Larry was certified as an IEP Positive Peace Activator. Rotary International partnered with the Institute for Economics & Peace to provide extensive training for selected Rotarians at RI headquarters in Evanston. As a Positive Peace Activator, Larry explains the difference between negative peace (absence of war and armed conflict) and positive peace (attitudes, institutions, and structures that create and sustain peaceful societies. ) In addition, Larry discusses the eight Pillars of Positive Peace (for example, equitable distribution of resources, free flow of information, low corruption, good government, etc. )As a Peace Activator, Larry can help clubs promote positive peace through workshops, virtual or in-person training, or presentations at club meetings, in addition to discussing public promotion and advocacy of peace, (for example, establishing Peace Poles in communities or conducting peace symposia,) Larry also helps Rotarians develop a personal, individual positive peace ethic to use in everyday life.
