As permanent member of the RAWCS cath lab team, I used my skills as a technical specialist in interventional medical imaging to assist with the relocation of ten cardiovascular catheterisation laboratories from Australia to developing countries.
The cath labs were installed in Mongolia, Nepal, Sril Lanka and Fiji.
Relocating complicated equipment to developing countries is the easy part of a project.
After installation, we need to ensure the equipment is used in compliance with radiation, mechanical, electrical, chemical and environmental standards.
Planned maintenance visits need to factored in at the planning stage to ensure ongoing compliance.
If a breakdown occurs, a factory trained field service engineer may need to travel to site.
If your Rotary club is planning to donate medical equipment, and you have questions concerning installation, planned maintenance or ongoing repairs, please contact me.
