Good afternoon, I had the opportunity to listen to presentation(s) you lead, at a PETS (or PELS) seminar in LA last year and I believe, also at the Calgary convention. I am approaching my encore term as President for my Santee-Lakeside club in District 5340. So I can build on this past year to create a bigger vision for our members. First, I must confess, I have not yet discussed this with my club. THAT is my first order of business. But, before I go charging into the breech with an idea for a service project that may be out of the scope of Rotary International’s Focus on Disease Prevention, I was hoping to get some opinions from Zone 2627 experts. I would then see what support I might rally first within my club and then within my District. I was hoping to learn whether research into the causes and prevention of liver diseases in veterans might be of interest far widely than my own. I had an interesting conversation with a scientist I have known for several years, whose past research projects had groundbreaking findings on health problems (including COVID) affecting veterans. I am a veteran, a retired Navy Senior Chief, so the idea of helping specifically to fund laboratory testing to discover root causes of diseases that affect veterans, is of interest to me. Of course, I would obtain pertinent project information and then publish it as a service project to solicit other clubs’ support. I would appreciate any time you might have to counsel me.
